660, for me it comes down to control of the puddle, brass or solder,,,, well it can go every place, but still be strong.

As usual, all the answers are here! Thank you ALSLED & 660Magnum! I already have the MAPP gas setup, may need a smaller torch tip for better control but we will see. I use my current setup for plumbing so might want a more concentrated flame.

Propane or map, regardless of the tip, will never have the control or tip of the flame of a oxy act setup

I know, when my brother and I raced motorcycles we took a  very small setup with us. About the size of a scuba setup. Do not have it any more, wish I did.

I got a little set up that run oxygen and mapp gas from lowes that is very small and great for brazing on a muffler. It uses the same size bottles as a propane plumbers torch. It is made by bernzomatic.http://www.bernzomatic.com/item.html?id=30 should be model number ox2550kc

Takes up very little space and puts out some good heat. I am glad that I bought it. Does a nice job with 1/8" bronze brazing rods.

If I was in your shoes and wanting to learn a new,, lets say, how the F... do I fix this.  Stop out at a local welding center, prax air or rogers or who ever is around your area, bring a muffler and show them what you want to do.

I found this site just for the same reason, How the F??? do I fix this.

3000FPS may be a good lead, I'm just a backyard welder, not a pro.

Sorry guys I am just  backyard welder like you.   I just happen to have a tig welder and learned how to weld magnesium by trial and error.   I have never silver soldered or brazed anything before.   I am interested in any information you get also.

If you are tight on space they do make some very small bottles for Oxy aceltylene welding and I really do not know if mapp gas would get hot enough to do what you want.

I will say this it is a little tricky to get a good neutral flame. There is only one adjustment for the gas flow per bottle. But for the dozen times a year I use it, I  like it.
