Old rings New Rings
« on: March 18, 2012, 06:04:08 pm »
Just to show the newer guys the difference. You can see the wear and feel the psi difference pulling over.

372 50mm rings pulled from a running saw just getting low on compression 120psi, still ran and started good. Checked cold

Then new Caber 50mm rings with about 30 seconds of run in , idling and blips. Checked warm 140psi

Amazing that something so small and so simple can have so much effect on the way one runs.
Did you measure the width and see what the difference was?
I'll bet it would be really hard to tell without measuring ring end gap.

Rings just might be the most important pcs of metal in a saw that people over look just because there is no scoring hiding behind the muffler.

 Nice picture cut4fun!

If you get a jewels loupe and look at the rings you'll see the old rings have the edges worn round .

Yeah I was wondering when you ask if I checked end gaps.  When half the ring was missing.  :P

You sure can see the wear on the old rings and how much thinner they start to become.   You can see why they would start to loose some tension when in the cylinder.
