Recoil spring lube
« on: September 30, 2016, 07:15:42 am »
What do you all use? I was thinking of graphite as it is a dry lube. So dust and dirt won't stick to it. I have had some problems with the pull cord getting hung up and slow to return because the spring is dirty and dry.

WD40 and a tight wipe.

Dry lube or silicone spray.

Light smear of Lubriplate on the pulley spindle.

New rope most every time as a worn fuzzy has drag.

Never go reefing on an old dry, rusty recoil until you get it clean and lubed proper.  The spring will most always break.

Rust pits are a stress riser and spring steel is notch sensitive.
