transmission fluid for carb gaskets?

Kev I remembered you tried this.  Does it work, how long do you let the gaskets go before re-installing? is there any special type of fluid?

I remember soaking the 415 carb diaphragm. But I cant remember in what.

Al Smith knows I bet or maybe Jim.  Whatever it was is a temp fix to get some more use out of a stiffened gasket.  Sorry my mind is forgetting chit now days.

Now where was I and where was I going..........................hmmmmmm  :(

Found it.

You could try soaking the diaphragm in brake fluid a couple days to soften it up .

That idea actually came from Lewis B. from Magnus' site .Evidently he had some saws so old he could couldn't find replacement parts for the carbs .

For my 2 cents worth unless it were some thing so rare as that I wouldn't fool with it .A basic rebuild kit is usually under 5 bucks .That only includes the diaphragm ,fuel pump and spacer gaskets .Really though just how many times do you need the complete kit ? Not very often .
