EJ's  090 10ci pistons he had made.

Nice work on those, just need a good original cylinder / head, then leave it as is and enjoy having something rare.

But they would be OK for the odd 090 race after all your not using them all day every day
I am a idiot so my pics disappeared.

They have too many design limitations that create issues in building them into hotsaws. Crank, rod, flywheel, etc

Very true Adam, most of us have them, they run on their own at limited venues (particually in QLD) and draw a lot of interest, for guys like me they are more of a ''play thing'' for 1 run now and then.
The thing I have seen so many times with them is, they just get going good and then they break.
However that said, I know a few genuine 090 race guys who would not trade them for anything.

Yes to the fact its possible, No to the fact the Chinese 070 copy is not a Stihl 090 so how could it be entered into a "Stihl 090 visually standard speed race' when its not a Stihl 090.
Even if one was competitive, the options it can be entered in are  limited.

I remember this ole fellow ( he was 78 when I took this pic ) running a 090 at Chardon in 07 08 09 then I think he went to something lighter. My hat was off to him just trying to lift and run that thing cold start racing.  Guessing just standard bore and not one of the rare 10 cube.

I new a guy that had 090 that had a crank made and put a p.v.l on it and got rid of the fly wheel and it was fast. but I don't care about a full blown race out of this piston anyways I did it for vintage racing no split head don't care if I sell one of these. if I want the best race saw in the world 68mm piston was built for i'm having cliff helsel build it for me

I remember seeing that pic some years back, sure is a credit to the man. That saw is too heavy for him tho, something lighter would of made it easier for him.
My 90's start easy once they have been running, a good thing I guess, I have not seen one of those 10 cube saws.

ej, if you want a 090 hotsaw, build it and enjoy it, I don't know the Helsels but have read a lot of good things about them.

neil I have a lot of race saws I have enjoyed every one of them. I never made these 70mm for anybody but my self if somebody wants its fine the 68mm is the limit that we wanted to put on the 3120 Husqvarna the 10 cube was my own thoughts on racing vintage races on direct drive and gear drive were the year has a limit. I been racing for over 30 years and I enjoy it sometimes I have got out of racing but always enjoyed it now i'm getting back into it and I have always wanted a 10 cube saw the helsels are great people and have and build the fastest saws in the world bar none
