If I were gonna index a plug IMO I would place the  opening of the ground electrode towards the exhaust side giving thats the longest path for the flame front to travel and would open the plug gap to .030 to increase the arch. Been increasing the gap on plugs  and have notice a slight increase in a smoother idle and stronger pull without any misfires. Been also using E3 plugs and yes I know some have experienced bad luck with them but I haven't.

Thinking about this more, in a 4-stroke automobile engine at lower rpm and a larger combustion chamber/cylinder, there is much more time for the flame front to move through the cylinder as it burns.  In these small 2-strokes at 10,000rpm there is much less time and a much smaller cylinder.  In this particular engine at 10,000rpm there is only maybe 1.75ms before the exhaust port opens on the power stroke.  Maybe on these anything that shadows that initial frame front is more important

With a larger plug gap the voltage needed to fire goes up, along with the resistance of the fuel/air mix in the gap.  If the mixture is off or something raises that resistance further then you might start getting misfires.  Until that it's probably helpful as it causes the arc to pass through more mixture.

Those E3 plugs are an accident waiting to happen.  That large cantilevered mass hanging off the end is just begging for some vibration to make it resonate, leading to fatigue failure and having it break off in your engine.  And it does not do a darn thing.  I'd really recommend leaving those alone!

When I find E3 plugs in an engine at work I throw them away.

I don't really buy into the spark plug brand voodoo - I just run Champions.  I do like the new Champion 5843 EZ Start Spark Plug as it is supposedly a wider heat range plug, and given the abysmal fuel mixture control of these carbs that seems like a good idea.
