Looking for Ben Olsen or a reputable work saw builder
« on: December 27, 2014, 06:25:46 pm »
Long story short, crushed my Olsen 044 today, very sad. :( Ben built that saw several years ago and it has been amazing, loads of power and could work all day long bucking and limbing in the summer heat.

So I have a NIB 440 that I stashed away when Stihl announced they were going to kill it. I'd like to check with Ben and see if he still ports or somebody PM me a contact that could do it.

Some simple web searches of Ben Olsen doesn't come up with much, I do remember he was in Washington but that was about it, lol.

I've been out of the loop on builders, doubt some of those I knew still do it. I've had saws built by Dave Neiger and Jasha, while all of them ran good, they could not touch that 044.

Thanks
044/440, long live the greatest!

Ok, now that I have had a chance to salvage all the parts, which wasn't much, don't think I want to send him a new 440. The porting doesn't look good at all and the transfers or piston windows were not even touched. I have no idea how that saw ran so good. Back to square one, lol.

An original first edition 044 with the 10mm wrist pin was a very good running saw with just a dual outlet Magnum muffler. They were very likable.

It was a very clean 10mm saw, almost cried when it got smashed as I knew I would never be able to replace it.

I have another contact and hope to get a 440 or 460 done, running a stock saw sucks.
