Electronic ignition swap for 090
« on: November 07, 2016, 07:01:03 pm »
Stihl did not have an electronic ignition for the 090 when I built my 1987 version hotsaw, and I wanted a far lighter flywheel. We had lots of junked saws and I found that the flywheel from an 048 fit the crank perfectly,it was an electronic ignition too,so all I had to do was make some steel mounting brackets for the ignition module, which I gave generous slots for altering the timing.Of course you need the late style starter to work with the flywheel, not the old Fairbanks-Morse starter.
This has worked very well, the ignition has not failed and the saw still runs strong.

It was actually the flywheel and ignition from an electronic 042,basically same as newr 048.

Only thing was weak spark at 14,500 with 220 psi,so I reduced comp. to 190 and all was fine.
