I know I have sent some different material type stuff out to some race saw builders that couldnt get it in the country they lived. I wonder how that experiment worked out.
I never ask as I got out of all that stuff.

Titanium is a poor choice for a bearing surface. It's not hard. It's properties are similar to aluminum and grows at a higher rate. Just more gimics to make money.

Titanium is about half the weight of steel, but in some respects stronger as in tensile strength ans shear strength, however it is not hard enough for a wrist pin, usually made of tool steel. Tool steel is rated at 65 (Rockwell C scale),titanium is rated 36,not hard enough for that job.

But for a short lived hotsaw thats rebuilt after a few hours use which was about equal to 10 years with my saw...I can see ceramic bearings and titanium wrist pins would work.
That lighter wrist pin would be good to help even out the balance factor of a heavier big bore piston.
I'm just learning all this stuff recently

Well you can try it,it wore out very severely in my testing, the taper-bored Ti pin was exactly half the weight of the stocker. ok for short runs I guess. I also used the highest grade of titanium. I was amazed that even as severely worn and loose the pin was it did not break!

There's a Czech made VM125cc kart engine that can put out 70 PS/hp. They claim piston, wrist pin, ring and bearing must be changed every 10 gal of fuel. After 20 gal con rod must be changed.
That thing would burn up 20 gal on the track pretty fast,Lol.

When I raced a Yamaha YZ-125 the factory recommended replacing the ring every race.

When I raced a Yamaha YZ-125 the factory recommended replacing the ring every race.
My YZ125J service manual says break in from new or rebuild requires 12:1 mix, run bike in lower gears up to half throttle for first 15 minutes while checking plug every 5 minutes. Last 5 minutes full throttle and higher gears may be used but avoid substained full throttle.
Then remove the top end and inspect c/p. Remove any high spots on piston with 600 grit wet sandpaper.  Clean components and reassemble.
Replace fuel with 24:1 mix and run the machine for 15 minutes throughout its operating range, checking plug after first 5 minutes. Machine is now ready to race.

When I worked for a Yamaha dealer I had to do that procedure with every new YZ we sold.

1 guy said 10-15 tanks and shatters.   Warning on them now 35 tanks or less when buying.

Great info in this Wiseco pic. What I did too.
