18" Poulan 2500
« on: June 01, 2017, 04:09:29 pm »
I'm looking for general info and especially a owner's manual for a Poulan 2500. My neighbor gave the saw to me free and I got it running for a little of my time and the cost of a new fuel line and fuel filter, about $10.  ;D

It seems kind of an odd saw, a little awkward to start and no primer bulb. The lack of a chain brake makes me nervous as my chainsaw experience is very limited.  :-[

I've Googled extensively (it's how I found this forum) and I checked the Poulan site, but I can't find a downloadable owner's manual anywhere. In fact, other than the parts diagram and parts for sale, there very little info about this saw to be found online.  If anyone has or can find the manual, that would be *very* helpful! (My neighbor never keeps or reads owner's manuals).

Also, the acres site shows the fuel mix 40:1. As did other Google sources. But I noticed the label on the saw says 8 ounces of oil per gallon of gas which of course is 16:1. I should go by the sticker, right? It is the richest mix I've ever seen on any engine.  ???

A few more questions, if anyone knows. When did Poulan stop making this saw? How much did it sell for when new? I know that this is no premium quality professional saw, but as homeowner saws go, is this a decent quality saw?   ???

OK to use 40:1 we have better mix oils today than when they made that saw.  I have a 4200 label is 16:1 I run 32:1 in it.  They are decent homeowner saws.  Can't help on any other info at this time.

That's good to know about the oil. I had test started it a few times with the 40:1 in it and I was worried that I might have put some stress on the engine.

Can anyone extract the date of manufacture from the serial number?

Only dates I find are. 94 - 95

But this says introduced in 1992. http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/3900e4b27540418988256d62001b312d?OpenDocument

So that gets you close.

Yes run 40:1 like Shep said.

Also not a collector saw so the dating isnt imported IMHO.  They bring $50-$75 stock if your lucky.

Thanks for the additional info. The exact age of the saw was something I wanted to know out of curiosity. You are right that it isn't important.
