1981(?) SXXV Counter Vibe
« on: October 22, 2017, 11:25:29 pm »
About ten years ago, my wife's uncle gave me his S25CVA with less than an hour of use on it.
I had to replace fuel line, filter, and air filter.
I'd say it had significantly less than an hour of use, since the bar had zero paint wear.
It's got that goofy-looking banana bar.

It doesn't have the hand guard on the front handle.
I'd like to have one, or a chain brake assembly, if possible.

I was immediately impressed with it when I first started cutting with it.
It's a gas hog, for its size, but it goes through wood like a beaver on meth.
My impression is that it is a solid little saw.
I assume that goofy bar is an early anti-kickback measure.

It smokes a bit, compared to my 2005-06 Echo saws and goes through gas as fast as or faster than my CS450.
But, dang, it cuts better than its CCs would lead one to believe.

So, is there much love for these little saws on here? Or am I the crazy one?

Any leads on handguard or chain brake assembly?

They are rippers for sure and have a following. Canada versions had chain brakes I believe and covers with handles etc sometimes can be found on ebay.

Nice.
One of those chain brakes would make me very happy.
As much as I love my Echo saws (and I do), that little Poulan punches above it's weight.
It puts a smile on my face whenever I use it.

Try not to push too hard in the cut or pinch and tug.  The upper handle mount are weak on those.

Funny you mention that.
When I received the saw, it was not running. Air filter, fuel hose, and oil hose were rotten.
I was cleaning it up while waiting for parts to come in, and I noticed what appears to be a crack in the front handle mount.
Right behind where the right end of the front handle bolts onto the rear (top?) handle.
It might just be a crack in the paint, but I doubt it.
I suspected then, as I do now, that her uncle got the bar pinched in a log and tried to yank it free.

I forgot all about that, until you mentioned it.
Been using it for years with no problem, but I'm thinking the crack needs to be repaired, or the handle replaced.

Perhaps weld/braze it with Alumiweld rods?

So, do ya have any Super XXV Countervibe handles you want to sell?
