3450 no oil from pump
« on: November 26, 2017, 11:28:51 am »
I am sure I have a over 200 hrs on my 3450 and now the chain gets tight when I cut.  I took the bar off and ran it a little and noticed that it is not pumping any oil.  I haven't got a puller wrench for the clutch yet so I was wondering what else might be the issue besides the pump.  They seem expensive to replace if that is the problem.  Also, there are some screws on the pump assembly but I do not know what they are for.

So I remembered that I had a car brake caliber tool and it luckily had the correct match for use as a clutch remover.  Got the assembly off and took a look inside.  Not a pretty sight.  As you can see from the pictures, the outside of the bearing came off and rested against the plastic gear and melted it.  Is this the end to a great saw?  It gave me 18 years of great service.

Used oiler 15-25.  Just replace and look over the metal worm gear.

Seal easy to replace too. $4 a piece.

Oiler has a seal in it too and come with or come with a gasket kit.

That is good information to know.  I will start looking for a used oiler and the seal.  Is it possible to just replace the plastic gear in the oiler?  I also tried to remove gear on the shaft but it is on there really good.  Is there a secret so I do not destroy it?

Thanks.  I didn't find it in your post but found another post that talked about it. Found the pump on ebay and got the puller 530031166 from amazon.  Now just to find the right seal.
I am trying to guess why it broke.  Before the failure I was cutting a large popular trunk 36 inches in diameter into slabs.  The saw was running full throttle non stop chewing through the wood for about 45 minutes.  Maybe it got too hot and needs to have some periods of cool downs.....

Thanks, I was able to cancel my order and order the correct one.  Also, sorry I didn't see the tool on the post.  I didn't realize that it had multiple pages.  Is this the correct part number for the seal? 530019146
