440 372 445 70.7cc test
« on: July 15, 2013, 08:23:58 pm »
When it cools down or I get the time in the heat.  3 cuts by each on each stick is what I hope to do.

Wood will be ash or other fresh hardwood I have on hand right now. Thanks to 660mag.  8)

Should be 16" to 20"  hardwood round. Maybe a smaller 9" to 12" round too.  20" bar 3/8 full chisel full comp. Thinking 7T , if not to hot could do 8T too. But dont count on it.

After just a little test session (just goofing off in small round)  The DP = Dual Port wide open with large side exhaust hole muffler 440 is going to be hard to beat with the stock mufflers on the 445 372.  Heck my 445 still has the spark screen in too  ??? cant believe I did that.  :D

Just seat of the pants feel in the cut. No timing was used.   This 440 cant be how other 044 440 runs could it ( four stroking to 13.7K). This thing impresses me that much.

my last 044 was tuned to 13500 on the button and still had some more to go if i wanted to. without a muffler mod, they are still a very strong saw. after one, or as you found out with the dual port, they become an animal. the 044/440 is a saw that's hard to beat. it is my all time favorite saw out there. :)
when I grow up, i wanna be an adult.

Testing is done in a nice piece of solid 14" ash     :o :o :o :o :o

All saws ran 7T 3/8 and all were set in the 13.4k to 13.7k range.  Chain was a fresh square off of Jim's square grinder.  Rakers were (guessing 27 to 29) just over 25 but less then 30 guessing on the 30 part.

2 cuts 14" firm solid fresh take down ash.

372  11.87  11.91   stock no muffler mods.

440  10.94  10.93   stock with muffler mod, DP muffler cover with enlarged side exit hole too.

445  10.13  10.44   stock no muffler mods and still had spark screen installed.

I really thought the 445 was going to be the slowest in the cut as quite as it was and throttle response wise out of cut. Even in the cut I thought it might have been the slowest till the times were being read out to me.   :o :o :o

That really surprised me too for the 445 just didn't sound as hot as the 440. The 440 sounded good!
