got the front of the filter done :) the mesh is stuck very well. much stronger than glue or plasti-weld.

these raised screw areas looked like they were going to be a pain. got lucky on the first try:

had to be right on the money with the spacing. this stuff doesn't stretch much.

pulled the mesh as snug as i could and "soldered" away.

and remembered to clean up the flash from the inlet on the rear side:

call it done!

You did a very nice job with the mesh. Looks like factory.

thanks! i think i'll do it this way from now on :) the mesh isn't too expensive and unlike glue, you don't have to hold the parts together while waiting for it to dry. just gotta make sure the flocking is gone from the plastic. when it melts it shrinks to nothing and blocks the real plastic under it from coming up through the mesh. a little dremmel work and it's good to go.

also tore into saw a bit. looks like it was running well before being straight gassed :'(

love the replacement bar adjuster screw :D

the bottom end is in excelent shape. bearings are smooth, crank/rod are tight. i'll throw some new seals and a top end on it. i have a good used cylinder and piston sitting in the shed. add some new rings and she'll be a runner. 8)

http://store.chainsawr.com/products/poulan-2700-chainsaw-piston-and-cylinder-set
35 bux was a good deal!
also needed the top piece of the rear handle and other small bits.
ended up being $65 in parts and $14 for shipping. i think i'll keep an eye on this site :)

so this is the piston i had laying around :)

it's in pretty good shape. should last a while.
of course no inside pics of the cylinder, forgot to takes those >:(
but it's like new, still see the machining marks.
all buttoned up:

ahhhduuun!

did a mild slotted muffler mod while it was off, didn't feel like silvering in a tube. brought it out to the saw horse and it took 4 pulls to pop, 2 more to run. the tune was suprisingly spot on. the low needed another 1/8th turn rich and away i went. put about a half tank through it cutting cookies from a 12" ash log. didn't miss a beat, so i'll be bringing it to kristians next weekend for a good run. it runs really well. 8)
