To remove carb you need to pull the 2 carb studs on this one if I remember right.  Hint, never try and start with ones old stale gas in future, dump and put fresh even for testing.

Sounds like stiff diaphragms. Also check IMPULSE line, known for cracking. 

AV's can be ripped like the ones on my dad's 3300 was after 26 years. I ordered them new through Ordertree.com
