Agree on the mufflers. Wish this one had the black 2 piece early one.  old 040 I would bet yours shown would have a chrome bore?  Any info?

Aaron,  this one I have here is Bare bore, Chrome piston

Had to order a muffler kit to get the oem deflector. Deflector new is nla. Couldn't find a used one by itself.
If it were mine I would have closed off the rear exit and opened up front and or side for exit
I'll pop the muffler today and take a looky look..... ;)

Just went out and took a look, looks to be chrome bore, I can clearly see the machining lines in the piston, model number on mine is 358.351191, it doesn't say if it's a type 1 or 2 and I'm not sure what the difference is between those two..... ???

Your decal type is why I thought it would be chrome bore on yours.

If you look at the sticker on back of tank and the numbers listed. Do you see a 1 or 2 ending like on mine shown?  Not that it matters IMHO.

My decal does not look like yours, no 1 or 2 shown anywhere, it only has the Sears address, the model and serial number of the saw, and what looks like the part number for the decal or the part number for the complete saw if there was one?

Well that is about 1.5hrs I wont get back.   Bad new for owner of the free saw.

Sure wish I hadnt ordered that :-X  muffler kit already.   :(

All 4 crankcase bolts were real loose.  Tighten them and bearings felt fine.  Ran the fuel line, adjust carb.  Piston looked fine.
But the bearings must be fubbarred as I was tuning the bearings got rough to point of locking at times turning over on restarts.   :(

I know different then this one I am working on.
Yours reminds me of the sears best decals which always seemed to be chrome bore saws.

I'm not a fan of this series myself so dont go out of my way looking for the bigger cc ones.

I'm not really a fan of this series either, I only bought it because it was cheap and right around the corner from me, first of this series I've owned, and like I said earlier, it does run well for what it is and will come out on occasion.... ;)

Talked with owner this evening.  Going to show him his saw and issue.  Then he is going to take home a like new looking craftsman 3.0 49cc I set up for him with 16" and new square filed stihl rs chain.  Already gone through this summer just waiting on new owner.

Tried to explain the differences of the metal cased saw over this plastic clamshell saw.  Wish he could have ran them back to back to see the real differences in the cut.

Taking the 46cc on trade for my labor and parts and putting it toward the 3.0.
