Craftsman 358.351701 38cc poulan 3816

Craftsman poulan strato came in with typical complaints of the little saws. Wont idle wont take fuel on throttle. To LEAN from factory on L low side. Adjusted that and the I idle and all is good. Now to sharpen the butter knife sharp chain.

Says 38cc but betting this is one of those that is really 42cc

Guy that brought this in was grinning ear to ear this morning. Said the saw has never run or cut like that.

He also then tried out the Poulan Pro Farmhand 295 46cc and had me set it up with 20" 325 78DL and left with it too.

Good Job Cut!

Did the carb have the splined jets or something else?

I have the 3314 Woodshark and a 4018WT strato saws and both have the same 42cc family EPA sticker on them.  Both came with the same exact owner's manual.  Interestingly, the manual covers 33cc to 40cc chainsaw models on the cover.  Does not include any text regarding 42cc in the descriptions.  Ereplacement Parts lists the same jug and crankshaft assembly part numbers.  I run one, then run the other and I can't tell any difference in power or revs.  I have the splined tool so I was able to fix the L mixture lean setting these come from the factory with.  Also these saw idle speed comes in way too low so that has to be increased substantially to keep these units from stalling and dying out.  These units power through the cuts much better than their advertised cc suggests.  I think of them as great firewood saws when properly tuned.  I put bucking spike kits on mine because they do have the power to use the spikes in a bucking cut.

I find these stratos Poulan are always trying to brake my fingers.  I've used old Mccullouch recoil handles on a couple and that has helped.  Wondering if they have a very advanced ign settup.  I do prefer theoplder Poulan box store saws, have to say.  I also have a 4620 with spring assisted recoil and that is so much smoother.
