Craftsman 36CC issues
« on: September 19, 2017, 09:46:32 am »
I have a craftsman 36 cc
Model: 530-084295

I got a  snowblower and some chain saws tents basically a shed clean out free.

So i took this one apart, took down the carb, cleaned it up, screen was halfway clogged. diaphragm still looks good, has a couple slight wrinkles, but still bouncy.
Fuel lines were SHOT, literally corroded on touch.  so i replaced the fuel lines, fuel filter still seems good, sucks fuel into the primer bulb well.
So now, sometimes on the first or second pull it will fire, run high, for about a second or 2 then die, then wont start back up, spray gas down the throat, it will fire again for a second then die, or run high for a second then die.

if i let it sit for about 10 minutes, and DONT spray gas , it will fire up for a second and thendie, or like i said, run for a couple seconds then die,
It dont seem to be sucking fuel out of the bulb
The little ribber nipple was in the fuel tank, so i got that back on the fuel cap, and the return line,  i put the double end on that,
spark plug looks brand new.

Front screen spark arrestor is clean as a whistle.
so yea, sometimes i can get it to idle for about 3 or 4 seconds, but thats it, touching the throttle,,, just bogs out.
can the filter still suck fuel but not enough maybe?
any ideas? before i buy a carb kit.

Thanks

First thing I would be doing is pulling muffler and looking at front of piston and ring.  Also looking at back of cylinder.  Plus checking psi with gauge.  I have wasted alot of time before by not doing so.

Is this the non strato or strato saw?  I am WAGing non strato.

If all checks out above. Open L and H 2.5 to 3 turns out and see what happens.  These dont follow normal 1 1.5 carb H L tuning IMO

NON strato

top of the cylinder is of course crudded up.

But like i said, the fuel lines were not hooked up, just in a bunch of corroded pieces. so from other videos, with the same carb & style, I put the lines the same.

from the picture u see below,
right arrow line goes to the top of the fuel tank. the line is wide open, basically a return line.
left arrow is the input, comes from the primer bulb, line in from the tank has a filter on it , then goes to the primer bulb.

so right arrow is return line, and left arrow in fuel in. Correct?

Your pic? That pic is strato saw.  That carb is known to go bad. I buy new ones for $18.

I have one here now for fuel line routing if needed

Was that the saw your working on in pic you posted?

Luke a dealer said this about thos carbs on these strato saws =  i have found the accelerator pump o ring goes out , but on a poulan it is cheeper to buy a new carb than replace it , the o ring makes them leak air and run lean no matter how you adj it

Looks like they went up to $20 now. Thinking this is where I bought it. But can check ordertree.com and mowers4u.com too

Yes.. I just wanted to make sure the lines were right. Yea I let it sit for a couple hours.. went to start it.. didn't prime it either.. fire up for about 3 seconds then died..

Then won't even sputter at all..  when trying to restart.. only if I let it sit for a while

I'll pull the strato off the shelf tomorrow if I get time. Was busy building a PP330 today.

Will try and mark pic of the lines and where they go like I did on a non strato.

Maybe someone else here knows which is which from your pic.

Yep I agree if the fuel lines were as bad as you say then I would bet the carb is bad also.   Replace it or take it apart and clean real well and then put in a kit.
