Well now that the saw was mine. Gave $20 trade in toward the $50 dollar I was aking for like new 1950 42cc (it says  ??? ) I had. Plus gave him $10 trade in for the 150. Told him $20 and use his b+c.  Just because I would never use the 1950 and be a loaner only.

Anyhow I wanted to see if the seals were really bad like it was acting. So I put on a known good carb I had. Bingo straightened right up.
Now I have never seen a carb to take off and scream the saw off on a high idle run like it had a air leak.  You guys?  Going to put a kit in the carb to see if that does it but I wonder.

May have been another issue that cause the high idle rev.  Did you look at the throttle plate to see if it's shifted (or installed wrong)?  That can keep the carb from closing all the way.  Hopefully the plate screw is still there and not in the crankcase (or sitting on the reed............I saw that once).  Worn throttle shaft bores in the carb body can cause it to behave like that.

The poor impulse signal (from seals usually) or bad pump section (due to a bad diaphragm, clogged filter, or loose pump section cover screw) will make the saw not pump fuel for beans.  That'll cause the poor idle quality, wandering tune and poor cold starting symptoms.............but wouldn't cause it to rev out.
-Aaron

For older saws:
Tune the H side so that it 4-strokes (burbles) at WOT unloaded and just cleans up when under load.
When you lift cutting load, the saw should immediately revert to 4-stroking.  Fine tune the transition point for the wood you're cutting.

How about the high speed check valve is leaking back into the idle circuit.

I was actually even thinking of putting a different tank, handle etc on this saw if the carb works after rebuild.  But after making test cuts with it and not feeling those not so good vibrations.  I think I will just leave the rednecked washered av handle on it.
The handle style does make it feel bulky and heavier then the non av versions.

Will get back to the original carb check, when I get kit and more time again.

I put the carb on the 1800 I pulled the good carb off of.  Same results but not as bad on the rev.  Thinking it was the throttle plate hung up some.

Roger can I get a pic of the av's on your saw?   Poulan 2300 firewood type III  , 2300 CVA  Trying to figure out why so many metal washers used upper and lower.
Sure was smooth in the cut compared to the no av 2000 1800 etc.

Decided to leave the handle even though I dont care for the bulkiness of it.  I like the av part on it, feels good compared to no av ones.
