Craftsman 2.3 like a Poulan 2300cva
« on: June 30, 2014, 04:12:44 pm »
Just had this super rednecked craftsman 2.3 chainsaw dropped off. Will try and get some pics of the rednecking later before I tear in.

What is the model number for the poulan 2300cva for the Craftsman versions if anyone knows.  I guess I can see if sticker shows.

Find the sticker if you can.  There were several model #'s for the Craftsman branded 2300CVA.

-358.35506x (16")
-358.35507x (16" with PS)
-358.35718x (18")

Each one of those will have a number in place of the 'x' (I put that 'X' in there to show that there's one more digit).  That covers several variations.  For example, there could be a 358.355060, 358.355061, 358.355062...........etc.  Some had more varaints than others.

The rebadged products list doesn't go into those variants.  Usually, you can type in the model # without that last 'x' digit (for example, 358.35506) and the partsdirect search engine will give you a list of variants to chose from.  That search came up with three model variants:

Forgot to look at sticker.   :-[

Muffler had been pried apart and put together wrong.  They had the missing back half bolt to hold bracket and halves togeether in the AF cover sticking up half way.  Fuel line as you can see.   Top handle all rednecked with washers so something missing.

Carb not pulling fuel so guessing carb kit.  Checked and cut line ends off and reran fuel line on it for now. No holes or cracks in line so why I guess carb kit.

LOL.  I can see the MN sticker in one of the pics.  Somebody without a clue worked on that thing.

When the AV buffers are new they're handy saws.  When they get old and rotten the saws get sloppy feelin'.  Make no inferences of anything else with that statement please.8)

Because of the 27 mile long fuel line on those, if the impulse signal isn't strong (crank seals) and/or the carb diaphragms are sketchy, they don't pull fuel or tune for ****.  K10-WAT for the carb kit and 530019059 (available from your local Husky/Poulan parts source for about $4 each) for the seals.

The current gas cap (to replace the lousy design that's on there now) is 530014347 (also both a Husky and Poulan part).  My Husky dealer had the cap and the crank seals in stock.  Cap was about $5.  They stock those parts as Husky sold a rebadged Micro (Husky 23C) for a few years.  If you happen on one of those (especially with a brake) I'd be interested in it BTW...

Well I primed carb got it to fire and finally start on prime and then watched it draw fuel.  Like you said I couldnt get it to idle and it went into what could be a air leak rev from seals I would guess.

I offered the guy a like new  1950 with throttle lock, chain brake, etc  for $20 PHO and  use his 16" b+c.  Plus leave his homie 150 ( I dont like at all) and craftsman for parts.

Didnt check numbers again but seen 16" bar.

Well now that the saw was mine. Gave $20 trade in toward the $50 dollar I was aking for like new 1950 42cc (it says  ??? ) I had. Plus gave him $10 trade in for the 150. Told him $20 and use his b+c.  Just because I would never use the 1950 and be a loaner only.

Anyhow I wanted to see if the seals were really bad like it was acting. So I put on a known good carb I had. Bingo straightened right up.
Now I have never seen a carb to take off and scream the saw off on a high idle run like it had a air leak.  You guys?  Going to put a kit in the carb to see if that does it but I wonder.
