I don't remember the carb model on that one I have but it kind of locks the throttle part way open on choke and releases the choke if you hit the throttle .It's the same carb I think as a Huskey 335 trim saw .I've seen one more example on a J-Red 49 cc model of which I forget its model number .

As far as those clam shells if they have the steel insert in the exhaust port which I have no idea why they did that they can be pried out and the port widened  a tad bit .You can polish up and widen the intakes .It's an open port design and I have no clue what if anything can be done to improve that .

Now I've heard but never done it of using the old Dave Neiger trick of cutting in a set of secondarys or boost ports going through little holes in the intake side of the piston .You have to be carefull where you put them though .I think those saws or at least the one I have only has one piston ring and it's pinned .

Good ole Dave once brought a pair of cylinders down from Mich with him to show me how it was done on some small Husqvarna I think .If I recall correctly the ports which were just grooves cut into the cylinder were set at an angle .The bottom of that angle aligned with the holes in the piston when it was going down at the time the boost was applied which was just as the transfers were being opened .They were angled in a way at the top to blow upwards towards the roof of the cylinder and being smaller had more velocity than the main transfers at the time of opening which was just momentary.Once they opened and closed the pathway to the crankcase was sealed off by the piston skirt .--clear as mud -- ;)

I've got pictures of the port work but it's nothing earth shattering or highly ingenious about the one I did
