I don't remember the carb model on that one I have but it kind of locks the throttle part way open on choke and releases the choke if you hit the throttle .It's the same carb I think as a Huskey 335 trim saw .I've seen one more example on a J-Red 49 cc model of which I forget its model number .

As far as those clam shells if they have the steel insert in the exhaust port which I have no idea why they did that they can be pried out and the port widened  a tad bit .You can polish up and widen the intakes .It's an open port design and I have no clue what if anything can be done to improve that .

Now I've heard but never done it of using the old Dave Neiger trick of cutting in a set of secondarys or boost ports going through little holes in the intake side of the piston .You have to be carefull where you put them though .I think those saws or at least the one I have only has one piston ring and it's pinned .

Good ole Dave once brought a pair of cylinders down from Mich with him to show me how it was done on some small Husqvarna I think .If I recall correctly the ports which were just grooves cut into the cylinder were set at an angle .The bottom of that angle aligned with the holes in the piston when it was going down at the time the boost was applied which was just as the transfers were being opened .They were angled in a way at the top to blow upwards towards the roof of the cylinder and being smaller had more velocity than the main transfers at the time of opening which was just momentary.Once they opened and closed the pathway to the crankcase was sealed off by the piston skirt .--clear as mud -- ;)

I've got pictures of the port work but it's nothing earth shattering or highly ingenious about the one I did

Cut4fun, gotta ask, what's the purpose for the throttle lock?  Not just for starting ?

dynodave, thanks for the research effort. Is your oil pump not working?

Al, my saw has that carb that releases the 1/2 choke on startup. I like it. I also like when you pull choke full on it flips the on/off switch on. Do all the poulans like this do that ? I saw on an IPL that  steel exhaust insert is ( I think ) a heat shield. WTF?  " Old Dave " sure sounds like a talented guy.

Thanks again fellas for all the input.   Chris

Throttle lock locks the throttle to half throttle.  IMO it was what they used before it was used in the choke lever to  set carbs to high speed idle.

On my machines 2150...The high idle button only functions until you blip the throttle and is for starting.
The choke lever resets if you push the ignition kill switch or if you push it off manuall..
I think my older 3800 has a high idle cam actuated by the choke... not the same. push the choke off ...idle comes down...
The 2150 oil pump seemed slow to oil and I swapped it with another basket case piece....it seemed better but I tried to figure why??? and did not see how the oil is made to move.  No one could explain it either... at least so I could understand.
Never could figure why some have the exhaust insulator and some don't. I don't loose any sleep over it though!

The throttle lock comes off when you hit the throttle too. Do you need pics?

I think I have a 2375 and 2150 both with throttle locks on the shelf.

Cut4fun, that's what I thought on the throttle lock.   Pic's are always nice.

Dynodave, my saw flows oil too much. Wish it was adjustable. Few years back wasn't flowing. Thought pump was bad but it was just blocked at the outlet

BTW, do y'all know if I can put a rim sprocket on this saw. Crank is 10mm I think.   Chris

I found one once for my Poulan 295 but I am not sure if it has the same crank.

I've searched for a rim sprocket for this series of saw but have not found one yet, and so far had to settle for a new spur type on a friends saw repair as well as my own.

???in general ...will a 3/8 rim work OK for both LP3/8 or regular 3/8???

Yes!
There is (to my knowledge) no such animal as a 3/8ths LP rim.

Mike, thanks for the info.      Also I think 3000FPS and Cut4fun were correct when they said it might be a Wild Thang. After reviewing more IPLs it appears my saw matches the  wild thing 2375 type 2 ( 2004 model ), except mine has 18" Intenz bar instead of 18" regular bar.   As dynodave stated it is also very close to the 2150LE  type 2 ,  except for a 16" b+c. Actually it is exact ,same carb ( zama C1Q W20 ) ,same p+c ( 530012550 ) .   I'm starting to think the length of b+c determines the model number with everything else the same.

Also, does anyone know if the air filter (foam) should be oiled or not?   When new it was dry. Manual doesn't address this.   Thanks again for all the responses.  Chris
