HDA 137 164 carbs
« on: January 26, 2015, 06:01:45 pm »
HDA-137  and HDA-164 carb

Off hand is the idle screws the same?

Received the NOS hda137 carb and it was missing idle screw. No big deal and will search IPL's later if nobody knows off hand.

Also received the NOS small intake boot.

Guys notice part #17 on 137 says governor kit.   Is it like the brass plug on other carbs I am used too?

Looks different and ordered the 137 kit already.  Guess I can check the 164 I have off in barn to see later.

Saving walbro 87 120 info = 120 Venturi 15.08 and  87 16.66 mm

Kevin when I looked at those listings, the governor kit has no part number next to it.  #16 is the inlet needle (with a corresponding part number next to it), and #17 is the governor kit (with no part number).  Thinking those two HDA's don't have a governor...................but possibly other HDA's do.

The 164 and 137 do look a bit different externally.  My 164 had a brass tube for the impulse line, while the 137's I've messed with have plastic barb elbows for the impulse.  The 137's also have "made in Mexico" on them, and sure didn't impress me with their build quality.  Rough castings, a throttle arm that had to be bent to properly line up with the idle screw one one, a throttle plate that was rough and wanted to 'stick' in the throttle bore on that same carb, etc.  One is on the PP S-380 that I'm working on now, and the other was an NOS carb that I put on a PP330 that had a misbehaving HDA164.  The NOS carb was the really rough one.  Ran fine though...

Cool I didnt know how to take that. I seen no part # listed for both but wondered. Thanks.

$7.99 shipped for the idle kit. Holy crap.  Otherwise it appears NLA or on back order list.

Interesting.  I'll have the 137 on the current S-380 back off and will take another look.  It looked better than the NOS carb, so it may indeed have JAPAN on it.  The NOS Mexico carb was rough.  Like the Chinese carbs on ebay now.  Worked fine once I tweaked the throttle arm a bit and cleaned the burs off of the throttle plate though...

The seller refunded the missing parts cost to me.  Top notch IMO.
I ask if he had noticed it missing and he said he didnt catch anything missing when listing.
