Craftsman 3.7 60cc HDA-49 24"
« on: October 27, 2020, 09:02:19 am »
I have a craftsman/poulon 3750 with the 3.7Cubic inch engine. Tried a carb rebuild kit and full cleaning but same problem exists. Saw starts every time but dies after 20sec. Seems to run perfect the. Starved for fuel. I think one of the ports is clogged. I donít see any HDA 164 or 137 carbs out there anymore. Is there a suitable replacement I could modify to fit? I really like this saw.

Have you replaced your impulse line?  They like to crack down by the crankcase where they connect to cylinder.

I might have some 164 left. Can check.  Think I just sold my last 137.

You can also run the smaller 49. It was used on the 365 3500 C3.7 60cc too.  I have bunch of those carbs still.

Thread here on the carbs etc.

Thanks I will double check that today! If that doesnít work out I would purchase a new 164 carb from you. I know the other carb can work and is a tad smaller. If possible I would like to keep it original.

I dont have no new ones. Those are long gone. Just used stuff in those now.   If you have a 49 around. Try that on there and make sure it is a carb issue IMO.

Why I like having known good carbs to put on to make sure that is the issue. Before buying other carbs.

Agreed! Unfortunately I do not have a 49. I think the impulse line may be the problem. I only see a feed and return to the tank. There is a small nipple coming through the handle that is not connected to anything. Looks to me for the bar oil, it at least goes into that part of the handle. I will have to look at a parts diagram again. It wasnít very clear and hard to read on where that line goes. But as far as I can tell I do not have a pulse line hooked up. Just a small red hose connected to nothing!!

Different poulan but you will get idea where impulse runs to at back of cylinder or crankcase on the older in pics.

Then BLACK line at top of carb.

Thanks. I am on it. Something is screwy because this has 2 lines coming out of the tank 😕. No primer bulb and a line going through the case. I will see if I can get some pics up here in the next day or 2

3750 shouldnt have 2 line coming from the tank.  The older poulans did like 3300 etc before switching to the tank vent on upper left side on 3750 etc.
Someone might have added a tank vent there and plugged off the side one?  Some folks do that.

3750 didnt have primer bulbs either. That was a later plastic poulans thing.

Thanks for continuing to help on this. Here is a forum of my exact saw on this forum (60cc 24" Craftsman). I thought it was a 3750 Poulan equivalent but maybe its a red headed step child 3500??

I will be out to look at the saw this morning and will post my own pics

There the reason you have 2 lines out of tank. 1 fuel line and other tank vent.  The impulse line in BLACK in the pic above will be the one to check to back of crankcase to top of carb.  The 2 yellow ones are tank vent and fuel line.

Thats cool and the rarer of the 60cc 3500 365 3.7

Still 60cc but earlier then 3750. Also they didnt come with a 164 carb. They came with a 49 carb.  So look for carb numbers on side of your carb.  Because I have and others have put bigger intakes and the bigger carbs on saws like these in past.
