Thanks Fossil.  By any chance, can you help me out w/ part nos. for the piston & ring?  I looked at the last diagram in your file and saw (for the ring) '45'.  Not sure I even sure I saw a number for the piston.

Draconian?  I'd prefer the term realistic, based on many prior observations.8)

If the piston is that bad, then the cylinder is most likely also toast.  That saw most likely has a plated piston and a bare bore.  Only a few models in that series had the 'normal' bare piston and plated cylinder.

Plated cylinders can have aluminum transfer (from the piston) carefully removed.  Bare cylinders cannot be saved.  Been my experience that a Micro series saw with an ugly piston will have a VERY ugly cylinder.  Your best bet is to find a parts saw to pull the p/c from.  Will be cheaper than buying new parts here.

The K10-WAT carb kit can be purchased from any good small engine parts source (including any mower/saw shop).  The crank seals can be gotten from any Poulan/Husqvarna parts source (including your local Husky dealer).  530019059 is the part # for the crank seals.  They're about $4 each, and you'll need two.  They're not hard to change.  We can walk you through it.

Just remembered.......... some 2300 saws do have the plated bore and bare piston.  Would have to compare piston and cylinder part #'s for the actual saw in question.  Even if it does have a plated bore (and the chrome isn't damaged), it'd probably still be cheaper to find a parts saw....

When I said "Draconian", I was teasing.   ;D

And your comment about the cylinder addressed my very next question (you beat me to it), Eccentric.  Knowing what I know about the piston, it certainly occurred to me that the cylinder might be roached, as well.  You mentioned "plated" and "bare" cylinders.  At this point, I have no way of knowing what kind I have.  Based on  what you say, I'd hope I have the plated kind so I might be able to recondition (hone?) it. Even so, it may be in pretty bad shape.

As I said, I have a good handle on the carb. kit and cc seals.  I still wonder, if I try to rebuild this baby, what the p/n would be for a cylinder (is it removable?) and piston & ring.

You know, looking at this whole thing from a bigger picture, I've had this baby for 21 years and it's served me well.  I bought it new in '93 for $168; it lists on Amazon now for $124 (though the latter one is probably made in China?).

I'm beginning to wonder if it might be better to give this a proper burial and move on to a new one (maybe upgrade to an 18") ...   :-\
