poulan 2050
« on: November 13, 2012, 07:28:19 am »
Scored this on ebay supposedly ran but needed tuning, Its a 1999 model 2050,  It will start but dies on accelleration, today gave it a general clean fired it up  but won't idle and still cuts out on accelleration.
It will run if you start on choke and keep the revs UP  and when the revs are up you can release and reaccelerate but its not easy
I wanted to adjust the carb and this is my first experience with what I gather are tamper resistant covers ,only allows about a half turn of adjustment. Can I rip these things off and try a carb adjustment in the normal way.
Pulled the muffler piston and bore nice and clean and muffler screening not blocked either.Like others I am needing lighter saws for my firewood and this will be the most modern saw I have played with cheers and thanks

If you can, just cut the limiter tabs from the adjuster covers so you have full movement of the needle valves

I cant remember on 2050. But the poulan carb stops I have come across pull straight off with needle nose pliers. Then can be slid back on once trimmed or left off and screwdriver slot is shown and has springs on needles to hold settings.

They are shown in carb IPL part when you scroll down IPL.

Yes you can buy carb repair kits for the carbs or diaphragm kits only too. I think they are just not sold through poulan being the carbs only cost $20 new.

Well got the adjusters off today but no matter where I set the needles it was the same thing will start on choke and if you can get through to high revs it will stay there but will not idle and still will die most times on accelleration
any clues
When I got the adjusters off both needles were out about 5 turns

take a look at your fuel lines and primer. another place to look is the intake block. make sure it hasn't loosened off at the cylinder.
are the 4 bolts underneith nice and tight? if not you need to pull the saw down. clean and reseal it all up.
when was the last time the carb was opened, cleaned and/or rebuilt?
