Poulan 2055 Stripped Case Threads....
« on: April 28, 2013, 07:39:21 pm »
I have had this chainsaw since 2004, and it has experienced a good deal of use over the years.  This year I had it out for trimming trees.  I had to get into the flywheel to take up some slack.  Upon removing the screws from the plastic case I noted that a thread had stripped and was attached to the threads of the screw.  I placed all the screws back into the chain saw.  I made them snug, but not too tight.  I have lost 3 out of the 4 screws that hold the plastic cover to the flywheel.  I am going to replace the screws.  I was wondering if there was a good fix for the stripped plastic threads in the casing.  I was thinking of cleaning out the holes and putting in JB Weld, but thought I might get a few pointers from a chainsaw forum first.

Thanks

Dutch

I have been know to stick some trimmer line in the hole and run the screw in there. I guess that is a mute point for you no longer have the screws?
We should share what we know... someone may learn...

that's exactly what i do. :) all sorts of saws and other equipment come in with stripped plastic threads. depending on what it is, i'll clean the hole out well and use a bit of ca glue (same as super glue, but comes in different thickenesses. i buy it from my local hobby shop) to hold it in. :)
when I grow up, i wanna be an adult.

Last time I had this happen on a Poulan 260 on the starter cover I just put larger sheet metal screws in it.

You can see in this pic what I used.   Atleast the screw head.
