Poulan 2250: Chain Keeps Coming Loose

I still cant figure out why this chain keeps coming loose when using this poulan 2250. Chain sprocket is good, overtightened the chain a little bit before tightening the bar nuts, and over tightened the bar nuts a little too. Still comes loose enough where I can see drag link tips from the chain when it sags/hang of the bar.  Its not loose enough to take off the chain by hand with bar nuts still on the saw tight. I'm down to either bad bar or stretched oregon chain.

What tensioner system does your 2250 use? 

The 66dl chain that came on the jd 450 with 16" 66dl bar  is stretched to where it wont stay tight either and is at the end of bar adjustments.  It just needs a new chain.

Without bar and clutch cover on the saw. Is bar oil flowing freely when the saw is running from the oiler hole on crankcase bar area?

Did you put a new sprocket on?    I ask because you say the sprocket is good.

I have the screw it located on the bar cover.  Its gets lots of oil.

Put on the bar and chain tighten it up and then put a witness mark right where the bar extends from the clutch cover.  Run the saw until is loosens up again and check the witness mark.   If it is exactly the same then it has to be either sprocket or chain.

I dont know. This was a freebie saw. I been having issues with a loose ever since I got it.

What is the drive link of the chain?  What is the bar length and dl count listed on bar? 

I'm still betting overly stretched chain or wrong chain.

Looks like 18" on bar. Should be 62dl chain. Now count your dl's on your chain.  If thats different there you go.

 If not the chain is stretched or do what 3000 said. Use silver marker to outline bar mount to crankcase to see if movement or not.
