I am assuming a 295 is a typical 46 cc Poulan ,clam shell design .Actually because of the design there isn't much you can do with it .Widen the intake and exhaust just a tad, gut the muffler and call it a day .

They aren't bad little occasional use firewood saws but no matter what you do to it ,it will never be an 026 Stihl or 346 Husky .

Well don't put such a big hole in the thing that it won't idle short of blowing black smoke like it were burning soft coal .

I'm not sure if I've worked on that praticular model except to tune one .However if it has that typical steel insert around the exhaust port ,you can remove that thing and smooth out the port which will be about enough width .Don't raise it up because it needs all the grunt it can get .

My 295 was always hard starting. I removed the muffler and took off the deflector and screen. The goofy outlet is in the back of the muffler with a aluminum redirecting shield behind it. there was a 3/8 hole in it. Like I did with my 026 stihl I added a 3/8 hole on each side of the original for a total of 3 3/8's holes. I removed the steel insert in the exhaust port and removed the lip on the sides with a dremel. After reajusting the carb it runs very nice and will start  on the 2nd or 3rd pull every time cold. Before I had to let it run a couple of minutes brfore you could hit the gas. Not any more. Im now running it with a 13" .325- .058 bar with a windsor chisel chain. Made a nice trim saw. Rick!

The one I have is similar but no primer,no brake Craftsman version .I did basically the same with the steel insert in the exhaust .A little other incidently port stuff .It has the same little lock choke carb a 335 Huskey uses .

For some reason that danged thing would pressurize the tank so I had to put a tank vent on it .

I had the bright idea to pull the air chute out of it .Bad plan .That little thing will over heat if you run it long so it goes back in as soon as I find it .

For what it is though it really doesn't do bad  all things considered .
