My 295 was always hard starting. I removed the muffler and took off the deflector and screen. The goofy outlet is in the back of the muffler with a aluminum redirecting shield behind it. there was a 3/8 hole in it. Like I did with my 026 stihl I added a 3/8 hole on each side of the original for a total of 3 3/8's holes. I removed the steel insert in the exhaust port and removed the lip on the sides with a dremel. After reajusting the carb it runs very nice and will start  on the 2nd or 3rd pull every time cold. Before I had to let it run a couple of minutes brfore you could hit the gas. Not any more. Im now running it with a 13" .325- .058 bar with a windsor chisel chain. Made a nice trim saw. Rick!
