Well I ordered two of those seals just in case  ;) Parts are on their way.  I think I'm gonna take your suggestion and put the 3450 top end on the Craftsman 3.0 bottom end I have.  I just need to pick up a B&C for it, and the tank has been drilled out so I'll have to do some MacGyver'ing to get it to seal up properly.

335 cylinder with 3450 piston.   3450 cylinder wont fit without some work.

Tank has been drilled out? Like the fuel line hole? Just run bigger OD line with same ID size. I started doing that as I'm tired of stock OEM OD line shrinking.

Right- 335 cylinder is what you sold me, plus the 3450 piston that I just ordered.

Yes, drilled out for larger line.  once I get into it, I will measure the holes to make sure I can get line with the proper outer/inside diameters.

Absolutely replace the crank seals.  Get them before they become NLA again.  Crank seals can leak and yet not cause the saw to be position sensitive.  Seen that many times.  Also have seen the position sensitive thing.

Both of those seals are the same.  I just did a pair on a 3000.  Convincingly strong little saw.  Aside from my busted starter pulley now.

Thanks for the response about them both being the same- I had a feeling, but the IPL wasn't clear.

Yea I am super impressed with it.  Such a stronger runner than my 5020 but with the same displacement.  Made me start thinking about .325 vs .375 chain, or how I could get the 5020 to rev like the 3000 does.

Different designs and porting.   I think in the poulan 5020 thread here Roger shows some stuff he tried on a 5020.

IMO 305 3000 are beast 49cc saws and your chasing alot there.

I messed up that last cylinder on the 5020 and already another new one and will be my next project after the husky I have tore down right now.

I would love to see what you do with it.  I like the 5020 as it is consistent, but it needs some more power after running the 3000.  The 5020 doesn't scream like the 3000 does, but that would be OK if it had some low-end to make up for it...but it doesn't really. It is pretty strong in the mid-range, but that is a narrow area to work in.  It really needs some more top end.

Now, I know that comparing the two is tricky because one has 3/8 chain on it and the other has .325.  I am seriously considering converting the 5020 over to .325 and seeing how it runs- I know others have done this.
