Just a small update for those interested...haven't really had a chance to work on the 3000 since it started leaning out on top.  I did play with carb settings, but not matter how far I cranked the H side open, it would still lean out on WOT.  However, I have collected/hoarded enough parts and the shop is getting cleaned this weekend so I can finally play with it again.  I already had two seals and the 335/3450 parts ready, but I was torn between tearing the 3000 apart and building it, or tossing the bigger P/C on the craftsman 3.0 parts saw I have and running that.  The hangups were (a) I only had one set of new crank seals, and (b) I really like the green saw better.  HOWEVER I found some crank seals on ebay for a steal! I got 4 seals at around $3.80 each with free shipping.  So now I am stockpiled, and the plan is clear- get the Green saw running again as a 3000, and build the grey 3.0 into the sleeper.  I just need a nice B&C for the 3.0, but that's easy.

I bought the anerobic gasket stuff for the Cyl base, and new cutters for my dremel to open up the intake and exhaust ports a bit as well as a flap wheel to remove the tiny bit of transfer in the cyl.  Hoping to get the 3000 figured out tomorrow (replace impulse line, check cylinder base for air leak, replace crank seals as needed, finally install rebuild kit in carb if needed) and then start on the 3.0 sleeper.

I'm excited to essentially have two "matching" pairs of saws- I have a "Wild Thing" with a 14" bar on it that will go with the 3000 and its' 18", and I have a Grey 2.2/14" to go with the 3.0 and the 20" I plan to put on it.

Look at where to buy online board. That seller has a phone number there and email and still had 20" oem bars last I knew.   Think title says poulan oem bars or something like that.

I just sold a used one for $10 shipped with a saw.

New oregon laminated 20" all over ebay too.

Hey Drew_UTH you sound like a man with a plan.   Let us know how the modified 3.0 turns out.   It should make a good sleeper.

Good news- Phase 1 of the plan is complete, haha.  I got the 3000 up and running sweet yesterday; as it turns out, I did not replace the impulse line when I initially put it together.  Sure enough it was **** all the way through.  A quick fix, tweaked the carb a bit and it runs awesome again.  So happy to have it back. Noodled some big pieces of fresh white oak and it made me wonder why I keep the 5020 around again!

Yea- I was likely just so excited to get it running initially that I over looked it and thought it would be fine.  I'm just glad I didn't have to tear it down.

Looking at the sleeper 3.0 in its box last night, it occurred to me that a bigger carb would likely help it breath a lot better once I put the other top end on.  Any recommendations?

hda164 hda137 are the bigger carbs on the 380 330 3450 3750. Bolt on.

But you will still have the small intake.

I plan on testing all that stuff in the future step by step to see differences.

Any chance that with the bigger carb throat and the small intake that it would have a venturi effect and increase the velocity at all going into the crankcase.

I didnt see no worth while gains on the 6700 with bigger 8000 carb. Stock with muffler mod.
I think I felt alittle gains with carb but never timed the 2 as one should to really compare.
