Venturi effect is an interesting thought.  My concern was simply that with an increase in displacement, an increase in air flow might be helpful.  I am going to be opening (widening) the intake and exhaust ports a bit, as well as opening up the muffler; so I will be trying to flow more air/fuel

That being said...when tuning two-stroke bikes, I have learned a few things.  A larger diameter carb on a motor will produce screaming top end power, but that often comes at the expense of some low-end grunt.  Conversely, putting a smaller carb onto a bike will shift the power lower, at the sacrifice of top end overrev.  MX guys like big carbs, Enduro guys like smaller carbs.  So I find myself thinking, while I would naturally gravitate to a screamer of a saw, I love me some low-end grunt.  So maybe I will leave the stock 3.0 carb on and see how it runs on top.  If I feel I need some more top end, then I'll consider the larger carb.

Just remember Chain saws are made to use at wide open throttle.   I never cut at half throttle or anywhere in between.

Was looking at a carb I pulled off of a J'Red 520.  HDA-3.  Slightly larger venturi and main bore than the stock HDA-49.  I got to thinking the shafts could be swapped from the 49 onto the 3.  If so, it looks like it would bolt onto the 3000.  Keeping the intake boot diameter the same, I don't know what, if any, performance gains/losses may be had.  Something I am curious about trying as I have never attempted carburetor modification.  I have flipped the diffuser so the exhaust bypasses the internal plate.  Cylinder gasket deleted.  Pulls very satisfyingly with stock carb.

I am beyond happy with the way my 3000 pulls, don't get me wrong! The carb swap thought was brought up for the 335/3450 I'm going to build out of a 3.0 parts saw.

Hey all, just realized I never updated this thread.  When I went to build the grey Craftsman 3.0 with the 335/3450 parts, i noticed a ton of runout at the flywheel, like the crank may be bent.  it got put in a box with all the new parts (seals, piston kit, cleaned up cylinder, etc) and hasn't been touched yet.  Thinking about pulling it down for closer inspection soon...I have a lathe and a press now, so it may be worth a closer look as I have the means to repair it now if need be.  The saw ran fine prior to me seizing a decade ago as a teen (outboard motor fuel not good in chainsaws...lesson learned, sorry dad), so maybe the little weeble wobble I see isn't even a deal breaker.

The 3000 is still my strongest runner.  The 5020 has not run right all year- seams like an air leak, have rebuilt carb, bypassed the primer bulb...still wont run for shyte.  Now I DEFINITELY want to send it on down the road, but can't until it runs right.   >:(

I am working on purchasing a clean 3700 from a member on OPE.  Just scraping together some cash to make a purchase below the wifely radar  ;D  I know it isn't optimal but with that saw I hope to finally be able to run a 24" bar.  Kevin knows all about this haha.

With any luck, I'll get the 5020 fixed and get it out the door for a moderate loss, but not trying to do that in any hurry.  Then I'll have the all-lime-green lineup, and all will be right with the world  ;)

On the 5020 check the POS oem  yellow fuel line and replace it.

I did- I found the inner "sleeve" collapsed like you had.  I have also put a kit in the carb and bypassed the primer bulb...still leans out after about a minute of run time.  I am going to go back into the carb again to make sure I didn't miss anything, and then start looking for other possible air leaks. So aggravating.  I just sent the $$ for the 3700 so as soon as I can make this thing run, it's getting the boot.  I have fallen out of love with it.

Yea I really feel bad for you.    You would not have bought that unless it was another killer deal.

Actually a friend from MI that is a echo dolmar collector text me.  He dont do the poulans.  He priced them to someone local and they never showed to pick them up.
Deal was you had to buy the 3.0 3000 at same time. Both missing and needing little things.
Weird thing on 3000 was end of handle broke off.

Guy has been to my place when I traded him a echo 702, echo 452 times 2 and a D176 36" bar. for some poulans.

Just under 24hrs shipped using Fedex ground to my door for 2 saws shipped $22.  Nice cheap and fast when just a state away.
