Venturi effect is an interesting thought.  My concern was simply that with an increase in displacement, an increase in air flow might be helpful.  I am going to be opening (widening) the intake and exhaust ports a bit, as well as opening up the muffler; so I will be trying to flow more air/fuel

That being said...when tuning two-stroke bikes, I have learned a few things.  A larger diameter carb on a motor will produce screaming top end power, but that often comes at the expense of some low-end grunt.  Conversely, putting a smaller carb onto a bike will shift the power lower, at the sacrifice of top end overrev.  MX guys like big carbs, Enduro guys like smaller carbs.  So I find myself thinking, while I would naturally gravitate to a screamer of a saw, I love me some low-end grunt.  So maybe I will leave the stock 3.0 carb on and see how it runs on top.  If I feel I need some more top end, then I'll consider the larger carb.
