Poulan 3400XP
« on: April 05, 2014, 11:16:08 am »
I think Tim has one and maybe Nik.

Anyone tell us more on these Canadian poulan 3400 xp?  Are they 61cc or 65cc etc?

This one is for sale for $75 as I type.  ;)   Poulan Pro 3400 XP

There's not much info available on any of the Canadian versions that I've been able to find except maybe a few on Acres site. I contacted the guy in North Bay who is selling that saw but he wouldn't ship the saw. It's an 8 hour return drive to North Bay for me so I passed on it. I doesn't look to be in the greatest shape.

They were definitely 4000 top end saws with a 3400 / 3700 filter set up. I suspect they had the vented air filter cover as they were commonly used on the
Poulan model 3400's up here. Both my Poulan 3400's have the 3700 vented cover. The Craftsman ones do not.
I also have two 3400's with 3700 top ends on them. The labels on the recoils identify them as 3400, 61 cm so they were built that way.
The XP is definitely one I want to add to my collection.
The Ontario Poulan distributor who is located in North Bay and has been there since the 70's said there were a lot of 3400 XP's sold. That's the only one I've seen come up for sale.
It figures that I have a 4200 and a 5200 which are very rare up here as very few were sold in Ontario but I can't find one of the 3400 XP's. The large frame saws came complete out of the US.
I wonder if  Husky knows that Poulan use to XP designation before they did.
The Poulan Canada office was located in Markham Ontario. I believe that was a home office as the address and postal code show that as a residential area but the area has changed a lot since then.
The saws themselves were assembled at the Skil plant in Toronto which no longer exists in that location. That type of assembly outsourcing was very common up here in the '70's and '80's

Great info Tim.  BTW.....................Homelite used the XP designation (meaning "X-tra power") first with the XP-1000/1100 100cc saws (evolutions of the C-series) in 1965.

The European manufactures seem to have ignored the NA saw manufactures when making 'firsts' claims (in the timelines contained in brochures/catalogs and websites) and using model #'s and such...............but that's another thread...8)

Ok.   I see it also has the black air filter cover, cylinder cover, and black bar.    It is all 4000.

I like the little decals for gas and oil.   Do not remember seeing those on any counter vibe saws before.
