Poulan 3700 recoil help
« on: August 31, 2011, 03:55:21 pm »
Trying to help a guy out with a different recoil pulley on a poulan 3700.   I showed him 2 pics of the known pulleys I knew of and he came back with this one I have never seen before.
Any of you poulan guru's got any info on this one?

Info Chainsawr sent to me.

Here is what I got back from a knowledgeable used parts dealer.

Those 3700 pulleys are a crap design. Better off to switch to a 3400 pulley, and flywheel. I have new pulleys in stock, and used flywheels in stock. They are each $15.

Kev, that 2 pin style seems to be a 3700 only style.

I dont know really how crap they are, I got a couple here that have not had any trouble, and have had 3400 style pulleys break.....

Mark the problem is finding a 3700 pulley like the one in the pic above for sale to help the guy out. Chainsawr Scott offered away around it. Do you happen to know of a 3700 pulley like one above being offered?

Also this guy had borrowed a friends saw when the pulley decided to split and break on him. So he is trying to fix friends saw.

Info shared with me. I dont know this series of saws so any input is welcome.

Chainsawr = Same ignition system on all 3400-3700-4000 series poulans. I've done this swap a couple times.

Here is the 2 I knew about before this.

I call the top picture a 4000 and later PP375-395 style pulley and the bottom is the common 3400 style.

Your probably better off like Scott said and change the 3700 over to the other pulley and flywheel. The 3700 was only made about 3 years and the 2 pin pulleys are hard to find.

every 3700 i have been into has that same style pulley as the top pic. every 3400 i have seen has the same pulley on the bottom. of course, we don't get many 4000's 'round here but the ones that do come in have the same pulley as the 3700. never seen that pin style pulley. new to me :)

What I have found when talking about Canadian Poulans are that all bets are off with them as far as being the same as the American ones.

Seems some were indeed different. Not sure on just the Candian produced saws or even some of the imported ones.

Another thing about Poulan is that once you think you have them figured out, you will find another that counterdicts what you thought you knew.

Like I said, I have only seen the 2 pin recoils on 3700's but they were US saws. The Sears Craftsman 3.7 saws that were 3700's used the 3400 style plastic pulleys on them.
