Be neat to see that butcher job on that crankcase (for a bowsaw) to be welded back up right.  Make sure to share pics.

Well the crankcase is welded up and put back together and the cylinder is cleaned up and I am getting ready to put it back on with a new piston and rings.   The cylinder cleaned up real nice and I lowered it by .020" giving me a squish of about .024" with out the base gasket.   I also opened up the intake port and exhaust port some by widening.   I left the transfers alone.  I hope to get at least 150psi or more out it when put back together.

You have me laughing.     It did get up to about 40 today so that was not to bad.   I have figured out though, that wearing gloves is a must when handling cold objects like cylinders.   Cold objects will suck the heat right out of my fingers...

I am hoping when done that this is going to be a great runner and will make it one of my firewood saws.   I also have a NOS chain brake and clutch cover that I will use on it.

Dang Roger ugly betty going to turn out to be a nice one in your hands.

History......#3  for me at the time.

That Time Allen BadBoy 3750 came from Ga off feebay and had been cut to use a bowsaw.  I had to split and fix crankcase  bar oil leaking into crank area.  Then loaned out and brought back scored up worse after first clean up.
I then traded it to ms460woodchuck after meeting halfway in Ohio in a 5 saw trade. He put it on feebay later on and low and behold 3000 fps has her in his mits showing her the welding and restore it needed.

How's she looking and are you going to touch the bare crankcase weld  to lime green?

Well I am done with the TA 3750.   This baby runs great but have not had a chance to put in wood yet or tune in wood yet.
This week end that is for sure.

So what we have is:
Installed new piston and ring.
Installed new intake boot.
Installed new crank seals.
Installed new fuel line and filter.
Installed new impulse line with black rubber line.
Installed new HDA 134 carb.
Installed new chain adjuster.
Installed new chain brake and clutch cover.
Installed new bucking spike.
Installed new air filter.
Installed new intake carb gasket that I made.

Shaved bottom of cylinder off and without base gasket I got a squish of .024".
Widened up the intake port and the exhaust port.
Matched the muffler to the exhaust port and completed a muffler mod.
Used a 320 grit ball hone on cylinder to clean it up some.  It looked real nice.
I will be taking a compression test after I have run it a little more to see where it ended up at.
Advanced the timing by 4 degrees using the penny trick for a key way.
And of course welded up the area that had been ground away from a bow bar that was on it.
I am just going to leave it bare magnesium and no paint.

This is a shot before welding.

This is a shot after welding.

Here it is all put together and ready for the bar and chain.

That is pretty cool with the history on the saw.   I am anxious to try it in some wood.

Look what I found.   Brand new for 4.97.     It is getting prettier.

Yep.  For some reason the black tops are around $7 (still cheap) and the purple tops are $5.  Not sure why the purples are cheaper.  You'd think that they'd be more expensive, as they were produced in smaller numbers.  Oh well....
