Poulan 395
« on: October 17, 2012, 06:39:15 pm »
I have been working on this PP 395 and do not see to many of them around.  This one was pretty beat when  I got it but the piston and cylinder were in very good shape.  I believe it is 65 cc.

I replaced on this saw 3 antivibe buffers, rebuit the carb, new fuel line filter and vent, new air filter, made new carb gasket and intake gasket, put in a gas tank neck gasket it was missing.   Bought a used muffler because the old one was drilled like swiss cheese.   Spark plug wire was bad and had to be repaired, replaced the spark plug.  Installed a new crankcase seal on the clutch side.  I added the hand gaurd because the chain brake is missing.

The squish was .050 and I dropped the cylinder for a squish of .030.  Modified the muffler and now have a great running saw.   The saw still looks pretty beat but with it being just shy of a 180 psi man does it run.  There is one thing I will not worry about when using this saw is, putting a scrape on the paint.  This will definitely be one of the saws I take to the woods for use.  Thanks for looking.  Roger

Reminds me of the 3400 3700 4000 saws but in poulan pro colors.  So is it the same bore like the 4000?

I really do not know a whole lot about this saw except you are right it has alot of similiarities to the 3700 and others.   Alot of the parts are interchangeable.  I do not know what size the piston is and did not measure it when I had it apart.  I tried to find some info and did get an IPL for it and found that it is 65 cc but that is about it.   The rings are the thin ones just like on the 3700.  I was really surprised when I got almost a 180 psi out of it.

So I have alittle update on my 395.  The clutch cover which was made for a chain brake had a rather large hole in the top of it for the brake.  When running the saw it would throw chips and oil straight up next to the cylinder and collect under neath the cylinder cover.  So I cut it off and welded up all the holes and painted it.  Not the correct color but that can be easy to correct later.  Put a different muffer mod on it too, now that there is nothing in the way.

This what it looked like when I first got the saw.

This what it looked like after welding alittle sandblasting and some jb weld to fill in some pits.

Here it is all painted.  I have not put in the chain adjuster yet  the paint was still alittle soft.
