Poulan 4200 5200 5400 8500 rear handle

There is a guy wanting to trade his 4200 with 5200 top for a 5400. I ask why and he said the differences in rear handles.  ((((  I'm just stuck on that rear handle design on the 5400.  ))))

So you poulan guru's what is the differences in the rear handles on 4200 5200 and 5400. Heck add 8500 too.

Main difference is the increased length of the 2nd and 3rd generation tank/handle casting over the first generation saws.  Longer spacing between your hands, and more fuel capacity.  The 2nd/3rd gen tank/handle casting does also have that 'foot plate' extension on the bottom that he's talking about. 

He can swap a 2nd/3rd gen tank/handle onto his 4200/5200 so long as he also has the throttle link that goes with it (or makes one).  The 2nd/3rd gen saws have a longer throttle link to make up for the rearward position of the rear handle and trigger.

1st gen is 4200/5200.

2nd gen is 4400/4900/5400.

3rd gen is 6900/7700/8500.





Green 4900 (2nd gen) next to red Craftsman 5.2/Poulan 5200 (1st gen).  Funny how the camera/phone made the green 4900 look like it was Skil yellow in the last pic.  Same camera/phone for all three pics.  Different lighting I guess...
