MTD products sometimes brings up a lot of discussion.

Not everyone likes them.

The MTD line of log splitter made under various names like Troy Bilt, Bolens, Yard Man, etc are typically made with the cylinder being made with a trunnion at the rod end.

Some of these have been known to tear out one of the pins which ruins the cylinder $$$

I've had a 27 ton myself for some 7 years and there has never been a problem,

But I haven't been splitting any gnarled crotches or hard to split wood either. 
We should share what we know... someone may learn...
