Depends on how you look at it . Many skidloader mounts are made in such a way they can invert and split with the mechanism on top ,log under .3 point hitch with a PTO driven pump the tractor engine isn't over worked .

They all work no matter if they are tip up type or strictly horizontal so it's more of a personal preference than anything .Some think they need 4 and 6 way wedges which of course might get-er-done faster but then again just a single wedge will put out more wood than most people can off bear .

I see some of those super fast splitters with two young guys in their 20's off bearing . Might look good on a short film clip but young fellows or not they would never in a million years be able to out work that machine .

They get tired ,want to take a break that machine could care less as long as it has fuel .
