Being I dont know these  and may help others find info they need.  Share up what you know on the auto and manual oiler on these.

I was trying to clear up a guy trying to say these models didnt have auto oilers and I knew they did since owning the poulan 4000.

So are all the oilers the same with no updates etc.  Being I never had one apart. Pic of oiler parts I found online.

They have an impulse driven diaphragm type auto oiler.  It's in the same housing as the manual oiler pump.  The diaphragm is thankfully a simple one without any metal parts riveted to it.  Allows us to cut our own diaphragms out of suitable material if needed.

There's a square section o-ring (called a quad ring by Poulan) in the manual oiler.  When it fails the oiler doesn't work right.  Sucks air and/or leaks.  AFAIK there was never any updates/changes to the oilers in this series.

Supposedly, the early 3400's had an adjustable auto oiler pump......................but I've never seen any evidence of that (in the SM, IPL's, in person, or in pics).

The ones that I have where the auto oiler did not work but the manual did turned out to be the diaphragm.  The only other thing I have done with them was to make sure they were clean.

The most recent 4000 I bought does not have the auto oiler working on it only the manual is working right now until I look at it.

I believe that's what it is called.  It is a small plunger with a spring that pushes on the diaphragm.  IIRC.

Found it in another pic with no spring. Thanks.

Sharing Tim's link to the material.   http://www.robco.com/content/view/339/28/

Hi Fellows,

I am looking at ordering up some of the material to make those diaphragms.  I've posted on AS and Sawhawgs in the Poulan forums and wanted to catch anyone here interested.  Let me know.

Cheers - Cory
