Poulan plugs CJ8 v/s CJ8Y
« on: August 20, 2016, 09:15:05 pm »
Is there any other differences in the champion cj8 sparkplug and the cj8y spark plug that has the extended electrode?

Thats the only difference I know of. Is the heat range etc the same? Guessing yes going by 8.

Reason I ask I know the countervibes called for CJ8Y but most come in with CJ8 and I was ask is it ok to replace with cj8 instead of cj8y.  IMO I thought it would be ok.

Any draw backs of this?

The extended tip CJ-8Y is a 2 stroke plug that extends for more complete combustion. The CJ-8  was designed for 4 cycle applications with flat top pistons, it will work in a 2 stroke but won't burn as clean..

Wow...if the cj8 is not a 2stroke plug then why is that what a lot of the older poulans 306-245-361 came with and call for in the books? not doubting you just don't understand this.

The piston and combustion chamber design probably did not allow for the extended tip plug, I never experimented with it to find out. I remember being curious about it but went with what the factory recommended.
