Chainsaw Repair

Last year on Black Friday, I bought a pair of 5020s for cutting firewood, anyhow, Ive read they come crazy lean from the factory compliments of the EPA.

When I full throttle the saw, it revs clean, when Im in the wood, it revs clean as its cutting, does not do, what I believe you guys refer to as "4 stroking".

Let me qualify this, Im a 30+ year auto/heavy truck and equipment tech. I also own allot of toys, some built by honda and yamaha that are 2 strokes (yes, Im old school but got some new toys as well). At the same time, you can fill a thimble with what I know about saws, but I obviously repair everything myself, so I need to learn.

Anyway, from what I can gather, both these saws are running lean, or at least "hot" as far as 2 strokes go.

The one Im playing with right now, has about 10 tanks through it, of the canned premix 40:1 fuel, I just started it on my own 90 octane recreational fuel, running schaeffers pre-mix at 36:1

So before I melt this SOB down, Ive got 3 adjustments on the side of the saw, manual says the one marked "T" is for idle speed. The other two are "L" and "H". I get the low and high.

So do I adjust the saw in the wood ? I dont have a tach ? Not worried about the low setting, just the high. I bought the Husky spline tool for the screws, it fits, I turned the "H" 180 degrees to the left, or loosened it, it seemed to run faster... but that is only by my ear. Im not so much concerned with my cutting speed, as I am the longevity of the saw. And yes, I know its a consumer saw, and so am I, but for what I paid for them, if things do go south, I can throw them away. Im running orgeon full chisel chain (LPX ?), broke in, for the $, its allot of saw (with a sharp chain).

I get the impression this saw is a re-branded rancher, was hoping someone here knew something about this. Started heating with wood this season, but Im bucking and splitting wood for next year right now.
