All gold Poulan Pro saws had chrome or nickel plated cylinders until sometime in the early 1990s. This was while they were sold at dealers; when Poulan started eliminating dealers and concentrated on direct retail customers, Poulan Pro just became another brand and many of their saws no longer had plated cylinders.

This PP236 hasnt had fuel in in since Apr 2011 going by my post in this thread.  I checked the PSI anyways and it pulled 120psi.

I also must have had the clutch off because it and the drum went flying across the floor while I was pulling it over for psi check   :-[ :D :D. I never did find the bearing or bushing for the clutch drum.

The plated cylinder looks good through the spark plug hole and with the muffler off. The piston showed a little light scoring on the exhaust side on top. Hope the pics can show it for you.

Opened up the 236 and found the air leak right away. 1 of the 2 cylinder bolts was loose and the base gasket was broken apart.

I still think I can feel crank bearing movement though.

Cylinder and piston IMO could  easily cleaned up.

exhaust side of p

rest of piston

exhaust side cylinder

I did not see any scoring above the ring.   I think you could clean it up and make it work again also.

I've got one of these I've broken down and already had the cases powder coated. I have a NOS cylinder along with piston. My plan is to port it (add boost port also), carb from S25DA in the parts pile, advance timing, and then run it for my little limbing saw. I've already cut the ridge out of the cylinder and now need to assemble the bottom end to set squish and port map the cylinder.

Kevin, I really think with those mods that little saw could be a 200 eating machine. What does everyone else think about my plan?

I think it should be a really nice little saw when your done.   I am interested in the boost port and where you put it and how high you go with it.    Sounds interesting.

I ran a stock 2300av 38cc and I wasnt impressed. I ran a stock S25DA 38cc and I was impressed.   I dont know what the difference in porting numbers, carbs etc. But there is something there if I was building a gtg saw to look at the older.

You thinking a BP like on a 655 location. Otherwise I dont see where dual externals could be done like I used to see and had on one of my 5000's.

It would be interesting just with woods port to see.

It will be like the 655BP and the height will be the same as the other transfer points.....

530027482 for the ring.  The carb box gasket is 530019252 and is also supposedly NLA.
