Poulan 260
« on: June 11, 2011, 05:02:40 pm »
I received a PP260 that was beaten with a fight with a tree and ran hard and put up wet after years of firewood cutting. Family friend that treats his saws rougher then rough.

farmboy then sent me a partial parts saw PP 260 that was locked up. The main bearings and rod bearings were frozen up and the ring was stuck about half way around.
I am going to be able to use the parts saw piston and cylinder and put a working 260 together hopefully between the two.

What is this flaky white stuff inside the crankcase?

Spent another hour or so and started project PP260 today.  Didnt quite get to use the parts the way I wanted to. Ended up using crank, piston and lower clamshell out of old saw and used cylinder and plastic crankcase from parts saw. Borrowed a bar stud from a green 33cc poulan laying around with no motor to replace a broken one in the parts saw crankcase.

Crappy cell phone pic that was with me.   :P

Carb needed a new needle, fulcrum and both diaphragms  Made a few test cuts and passed with flying colors.

Back of muffler where 2 slits were at had been previously opened way up by me on other saw and the baffle gutted and couple of holes drilled in front. Make sure to check and adjust carbs after muffler mods.

I think the 260's are good saws for their size.  I have several that I have worked on and are great for trimming.   Looks like yours turned out ok.

I have one more that I have not tore into yet.   Maybe one day I will lower the cylinder on it like I did on my 295.
PP 505, 475, 445.

very cool i had one it ran  but it would never idle right for me.....i would set it be good next time i pick it up it would be all over was not sure if it was something in the carb or an air leak..... finally said enuff sold it for parts.....got a real decent green 2600 and love it.... got it to run perfect......i like the 295 and 2600 saws never did get the 260 running good enough to trust it... on a job.....is the only difference the primer system ? and did the 2 holes help it much with that older muffler? i drilled the internals bigger thats all i did.....
