Chainsaw Repair

The factory PP330 spike isn't really 'big' like the large western/redwood spikes on pro saws.  It just stuck out farther forward than the 'regular dawgs on these saws.  Looked goofy to my eyes.  It has been theorized that the long PP330 spike was installed to allow a 54cc saw to wear a 22" b/c (for marketing purposes) and be able to run it (as there's only 19-20" or so of usable bar with that funky spike).  I put the shorter spike on the PP330 I had (and swapped out the 22" bar for a 20").  The PP S-380 that I'm working on now has the shorter spike already.  It's a yellow tank saw.  Probably earlier production than the PP330 that I had.  It also has an HDA137 rather than the HDA164 that my PP330 had on it (until I swapped on an NOS HDA137).

I run dawgs on all of my saws except for most of my tophandles (got a factory dawg on one of my S25-CVA's).  Only have 'big'/western dawgs on a few bigger saws that I actually use on bigger firs and the occasional redwood (and on some big old monsters for show/nostalgia).  Husky IPL's show smooth bumper plates as optional equipment.  I had a Jonsered 630 that had a smooth aluminum bumper plate on it.  Good idea for protecting the case.
