Well with a rainy day again.

I got some questions Roger.

Did you remove any off base or just a gasket delete?  Squish you ended up with using oem piston? I know there are some posted here. But I used 066 piston.

All the intake boots are the same.

The tanks all fit all the saws. 2 different tanks but all work.
There is the older like on 415 475 and some of the jreds too. They use the older air filter set ups and only different I founf on the tanks. All in the carb area.  It can all be removed to use the new updated air filter system like on 505 and later jreds.

So what made you try putting finger ports in this 505?  I would be scared as heck of messing up a hard to find 83cc top myself.
Finger ports worked in the 7900 Dave Neiger did.
Know of alot of 5 cube race saws that only used finger ports in the 181 281 instead of the external ports.

I only deleted the base gasket and did not remove anything from the base of the cylinder.   That squish was also using  the OEM piston.
I believe the squish was at .028".

I have read where some people will stagger the finger ports to open and close at different times in relation to the transfer ports but I used the piston to make them all at the same height.    I have done a lot of reading on finger ports and always wanted to try them and since this saw was made of different saw parts I decided this was the one I would try it on.

I always like to think that it is not just one modification that makes a saw run good but the combination of a lot of different things.

You think I should merge the green 505 thread to this thread?   That way all the 505 info in one thread.

Went ahead and merged. But left the green 505 titles in their posts.

I decided to do another compression test today.   The first time was right after building the saw and had not run it.   It was 135PSI>
I have about a tank and 1/2 of fuel through it now and compression is 140 PSI.    I have a feeling as the ring breaks in the compression will go up more.

By the way Kevin I used a ball hone on the cylinder to finish it off after porting.

Thanks guys... just the info I needed

More info me and Ron has posted.

Mine.

I paid closer attention to my measurements this time and measured the squish.   I came up with .0245 at tightest on the afm 066 piston with USED gasket.

The oem 505 with oem piston on the other saw when I installed today was .040 with NEW oem gasket.

I checked the 425 top before puling it and it was .0435 with used gasket.

Ron

066 Meteor piston is .020 higher then 2083 OEM piston. Squish with gasket, OEM piston was .041. With 066 piston squish is at .021. Comp is at 170 pounds. The 2083 rod is wider than the 066, piston needs to be opened up. Runs good

@3000 FPS  found some of the past squish info.
