The squish with the 066 piston is impressive.    That would be one to try next.

I like adding finger ports. Puts transfer flow more towards the I take side and aimed upward towards the plug. The dual transfer are ones I look at fingers in.

So I removed the Oem piston from the 505 and have 066 piston installed.    I put a new base gasket on and with the base gasket I got a squish of .023".    I got to looking at the stock piston and found the skirt was worn pretty good and that is why I decided to go with 066 piston.    Because of the finger ports I installed the piston backwards to clear all the ports from the ring gaps.

I didnt think of that with your finger ports and the 066 piston and pin alignment.  My race 166 was like that. Had to run the piston backwards.

Just in case you ever want to put a stock oem PP505 piston on the shelf. Little pricey at $106 and shipping. 503723502

Yep that is getting up there in price.   Heck I did not know you could even find one.    I did use my OEM circlips from the old Poulan piston.   I like the way they looked better than what came with the Meteor piston.

So I got the 505 all back together and tomorrow will make some test cuts.

One of the things I did on this saw is to make a new steel ring that fits on the carb boot and the carburetor bolts to it.   I noticed the OEM one was bending and I think it was causing an air leak.   The new ring I made was twice as thick and a little bigger.    This one should hold nice and flat for the carb to mate up to.

Went to test the 505 today and could not get it to adjust with the carb.    Seemed like it was lean.    Bogging on acceleration and would not 4 stroke on the WOT.

So tore it back down to do a pressure and vacuum test.   Well it passes with flying colors.

So now I am thinking the stinking carb has to be the problem.    Bingo.   I took one off one of the other 505.

Sure had me chasing my tail.     Need to finish putting back together and will test later.

I know one thing,  it sure has a lot more compression than it did before.      I will have to do a gauge and see where it is at.

Hate chasing issues that come back to the carb. Seems I check everything it acts like till only carb left.
But least you found it.

You were saying earlier the metal plate that goes around boot that carb bolts tighten into on yours was bending?  Hadnt seen that happen. But know now to watch for it.  8)
