I guess I have been asleep at the switch on this thread.  Nice looking stuff here, and great info.  I had my 505 out the other day to drop a 25" oak.  I bought the lot next to my house, and I can't keep the kids from going down to the lake on that lot, so the "road" got obscured by a very large dead oak.....

Sadly, the saw was running wonky, and very hard to keep in tune.  I think the intake may be ****.  I noticed this in the cut, and decided it best to shut 'er down.  I ended up taking the 505 back up to the shop and finishing the job (from both sides) with my "wife's" 023L.  Talk about an insult!!

Anyway, I think I am going to just do a full refresh on the saw.  No sense in risking the top end.  Probably loose the gasket while I am at it, but I am nervous to grind on it.  There is always time for that later.  Muffler mods always come to mind, but this saw just sounds so darn cool the way it is.

Yes, until I find a spare cylinder, the grinder will stay in the drawer.   The muffler on these sound great and are fairly open already.

A refresh is well worth it.   Mine keeps getting stronger.

Just picked a 505 parts saw to put in the poulan project bins.  Boy is she horrible looking in auction pics.  :o But parts is parts to me.  ;D

I just hope whoever is shipping this from KY protects it and packs decently so as NOT to break the crankcase rear AV ear off of this one.  ::)

505 showed up today. Crank is locked up, but cases seem good. Parts are parts.   ;D 8)

Buddy is dropping one off the 14th.  Says it needs a piston and bearings.  We will see.

A 505 is the next saw I am keeping a look out for.  That will then give me a 395, 445, 475, and then a 505.

You make it hard on a person.   Right now I have to replenish the funds.  But that does not mean I will forget.

Wish someone would grab that thing and give it a home already. NOS, it wont get any better shape.   ;D

Depending what you do with the saw.  I like the looks of 066 piston.

2 choices I looked into.

Stihl 066 660    54mm
Piston Pin 12mm x 8mm x 33mm
Pin top to top of Piston 17mm
Height 43mm

Stihl 046 460  Big Bore   54mm
Piston Pin 12mm x 7mm x 35mm
Pin to top of Piston 15.5mm
Height 36.5mm
